Treatment for Back and Neck

Back Treatment

A whopping 80% of American adults experience back pain some time during their lives. Back pain is one of the most common – and most costly – ailments in our society.

The cost of treating back problems, time lost from work, insurance, therapy and surgery runs into the billions of dollars every year. No matter what type of back or neck problems you have, Onondaga Physical Therapy can help.

After a comprehensive musculoskeletal evaluation to pinpoint the source of your pain, we’ll create a customized program designed to decrease pain and promote healing. We help patients overcome their spine problems through a variety of therapies and modalities, including:
  • Manual therapy to optimize function in the spinal joints & surrounding soft tissue
  • Joint mobilization
  • Soft-tissue manipulation & massage
  • Trunk stabilization top provide strengthening for patients with chronic & acute low back pain
  • Heat, cold, ultrasound & electrical stimulation
  • Manual & mechanical traction
  • Home exercise
  • Aquatic therapy

With the neck, the most common problems are related to the discs located between the bones of the neck. Problems in the neck can cause arm and neck pain and problems in the entire body if the spinal cord is compressed. We can help with customized programs that reduce or eliminate pain and increase mobility, strength, flexibility and function. We offer comprehensive, expert treatment for a variety of back and neck problems, including:
  • Pinched nerves
  • Disc bulges & herniations
  • Low back pain
  • Neck strain
  • Muscle spasms
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Sciatica
  • Postural pain
  • Stiffness
  • Radiating pain
  • Spinal stenosis
Neck Treatment
While there is no single treatment that can eliminate all back and neck problems, they are treatable and manageable. Symptoms and pain can often be reduced with manual physical therapy techniques, biofeedback and OTC medications such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

We also emphasize and provide patient education regarding your condition. The more you know and understand, the better able you are to participate in the physical therapy process for better, longer-lasting results.
